San Diego Women’s March
Jan 21 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Come march with SanDiego350 on Saturday, January 21, 2017 as we join with the San Diego Women’s March. The march will start at the Civic Center Plaza, 1200 3rd Avenue, San Diego 92101.
Our Climate Contingent will meetup between 9 and 9:30 am a couple of blocks north – at the Parking Lot at the corner of 3rd Ave and A St – and then join the march. We’ll distribute signs and have SanDiego350 t-shirts for folks who’d like to get one (we ask volunteers for $15 to cover the cost of the US made, organic t’s). Please make sure to be there before 9:30 am as we will leave then to join the main march. We recommend transit and carpooling.

Hundreds of thousands of people plan to march for women’s rights on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Washington, D.C., and thousands are doing the same in San Diego. The march welcomes women and men who support the rights and causes threatened by the incoming administration.

The march’s platform includes environmental and climate protection. The local statement says: We are marching in San Diego in solidarity with the Women’s March in Washington. We are dedicated to a free and open society. Together we stand united in our respect for all people and we resist the marginalization of anyone. As a diverse, inclusive community of compassionate people, we seek to strengthen and continue our commitment to work for the protection of human rights and social justice. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, safety, health, families and the environment — recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of this country.

Share your passion on a climate action team!
Jan 28 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Ready to take action on climate change? You’re not alone!

Join us on Saturday, January 28th to explore SanDiego350’s volunteer teams and committees and brainstorm with other participants about potential new teams – because when we work together, we’re powerful. This meeting is especially geared for getting new members involved.

SanDiego350 believes that in order to achieve meaningful action on climate change we need to grow the climate movement to the point where we’re a force to be reckoned with – and that each of us has a role in that movement. We welcome participation from all San Diegans, whatever your skills, availability, and interests.

Issue-based teams and committees are where a great deal of SanDiego350’s work takes place. We could use YOUR help with a wide range of roles and projects – We educate the public, advocate for climate-friendly policies, hold rallies, generate media coverage, train climate leaders, and build coalition with diverse partners. We work to stop pipelines, grow renewables, ban fracking, and urge funds to divest from fossil fuels.

The program will include information about SanDiego350’s mission, policies, and priorities for 2017, as well as how teams are formed and operate, ways the organization supports teams’ work (including trainings and digital support), and other opportunities for volunteering. We’ll have breakout sessions for you to meet other volunteers and existing team members and refreshments. (Photo below from our Jan 7 meeting in Hillcrest!)

Meet the Valve Turners
Feb 13 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Meet the 5 Valve Turners — who stopped the five pipelines between the US and Canada — in San Diego. Hear their story and donate to support their legal defense fund.

October 11th 2016, 5 brave climate organizers turned emergency shut-off valves on the 5 pipelines that carry oil from the Canadian tar sands into the United States. It was an unprecedented act of non-violent direct action that shut down 15% of US crude oil imports for nearly a day. To ensure that the pipelines would be safely shut down, a call was placed to each company fifteen minutes before valve turners entered the sites, giving them ample time to shut each pipeline down.

The five valve-turners say their actions are not only necessary, but morally and legally justified, to avoid the catastrophic harm caused to humanity by unprecedented climatic disruption.

Now, the “Valve Turners” face Felony charges with sentences of up to 95 years in prison. Hear Emily, Michael, Annette, Leonard, and Ken discuss why they felt morally compelled to take this action. In the very first trial, a hung jury failed to convict Ken Ward (Feb 1 – read more)!

Donation collection, 100% goes to Valve Turners' legal fund. If you can't be there, please donate online. Suggested donation $20 per person, but no one will be turned away.
