Hello , This Thursday, the new San Diego City Council will choose its President. This key role decides who serves on each City Council Committee and what items get docketed when. SanDiego350 is urging a vote for Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe to serve as Council President. The Labor Council and the San Diego Democratic Party have endorsed Monica, and dozens of our partners - environmental, racial and economic justice organizations - also support her. Help Monica be the next Council President. Email the Councilmembers TODAY and call into the Council meeting on Thursday Dec. 10. Monica has the vision, integrity, experience, and empathy to serve. As Council President, she would ensure we take more rapid and bold steps to address climate change and the many intersecting challenges the city faces, including a just recovery from COVID-19, the housing crisis, and reimagining the role of police in our communities. Monica takes the time to learn about the issues and to listen to the community. She tells us why she makes decisions, even when we disagree. She doesn’t owe the special interests who’ve blocked climate action, and she consistently uplifts justice and equity. This first council decision is critical to our work, and will strongly influence the progress that San Diego makes over the coming year. Use this toolkit to take action to support Monica for Council President:
- Email San Diego Councilmembers TODAY to ask them to vote for Monica for Council President.
- Call into the Council meeting at 2 pm on Thursday, Dec 10 and provide a 1 minute comment (email me if you plan to attend).
- Share with your friends and family and ask them to take action too by email or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
