Happy New Year!!! 2022 was a good year for ICEJ – I’ll report more on that later. Right now I want to address our future. We have seven years to take serious action on climate and avoid the worst impacts of climate change. The U.S. is the second largest emitter of greenhouse gasses in the world. President Biden and Congress pushed through the strongest climate legislation ever last summer but that is not enough. With a divided Congress, we need President Biden to declare a climate emergency and reject all new fossil fuel projects, especially those that directly impact frontline and indigenous communities. A coalition of organizations, led by SanDiego350, will hold a Rally downtown to call on the President to take these bold steps NOW. On Saturday, January 21 from 12-2 PM, we will gather at the Federal Plaza, 333 West Broadway for speeches from Council President Sean Elo-Rivera, Councilmember Joe LaCava, ICEJ’s Co-Chairperson Yusef Miller and several others. Then we will march. This is a national day of action with 25 events in cities around the country so far. Persons of faith need to take a stand on earth justice – here and now. Please join us!! REGISTER HERE TODAY! And don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions – phil@icejsd.org. Blessings,
Phil Petrie Co-Chairperson, ICEJ
