THIS MONDAY, Nov. 13 -- From Ashes to Action: Honoring our Climate Dead, Protesting Fossil Fuel Banks

In the past fifty years, two million people have died from extreme weather events, most of which are exacerbated by climate change. From 2016-2022 four big US banks–Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo–have poured over one trillion dollars into the fossil fuel industry, enabling its extraction and burning of the dirty energy that drives climate change. THIS MUST STOP!

Join us to protest this blood money and honor those who have died due to climate change-related events through a memorial service and protest that will be held before each of these four banks while processing with a (mock) coffin to symbolize the mounting casualties and the bank's culpability.

When: this Monday, November 13, 11 AM

Where: meet before Bank of America at 655 W. Broadway in downtown San Diego, and from there we will march to the other three banks.

ALSO THIS MONDAY, Nov. 13 -- Tell Sweetwater Union High School District to Electrify Everything!

On Mon, Nov 13, the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) board will consider a resolution to direct staff to develop a plan to electrify its buildings and buses. As the second-largest school district in the County, this would be a major win for the just transition off of fossil fuels towards a safe energy future and climate justice.

It is essential that local climate activists show up in force to tell the Board we want this resolution passed and implemented!

When: this Monday, November 13

What time: come early at 4:30pm for a rally! The School Board Meeting begins at 6pm.

Where: Sweetwater Union High School District
1130 5th Avenue
Chula Vista, California, 91911

Youth Opportunities!
Join Youth v. Oil!

Youth v. Oil is an awesome student-led campaign dedicated to phasing out fossil fuels and stopping oil drilling in California.

General meetings are every Monday from 6-7pm. Please fill out the interest form below to get involved and contact Abby if you have any questions!

Join the Youth v. Oil Media Team, led by Ryan. Meetings are every Tuesday from 8-9 PM. Contact Ryan to get involved!

Join the Youth v. Oil Legislative Team, led by Theo. Meetings will be from 8-9 PM every other Monday. Contact Theo to get involved!

Youth v. Oil is currently working to advocate for California's Senate Bill 1137. This bill was passed in 2022 and would prohibit new oil and gas wells within 3,200 feet of homes, schools, nursing homes and hospitals, but Big Oil collected enough signatures to turn SB 1137 into a referendum, putting it on the 2024 ballot for voters to decide on. Please reach out to Abby for more information on how you can get involved in this important campaign!

Youth v. Oil INTEREST FORM
Join the Eco Club Coalition!

Are you a high school or college student looking to get involved with campus activism?

The Eco Club Coalition (ECC) connects students throughout San Diego by creating a space that inspires us to take action on our campuses and communities in support of environmental and social justice issues!

In the past years, we’ve helped students pass resolutions through school districts for environmental action, organized campus-wide events for Earth Day, and supported the establishment of new clubs on campuses.

We plan to meet monthly and take on a county-wide service project to give students the opportunity to make a meaningful, collaborative change in their communities. In doing so, we hope to reach out to more students at your school and have them join us in this San Diego-wide coalition of social justice minded youth; we will also be extending resources and supporting their existing projects and goals.

JOIN US by filling out the form below and share this opportunity with interested teachers & students!
