Check out the linked climate-related blogs written by our volunteers below. Congratulations to our Member of the Month, Wayne Mai, on SD350's Membership Engagement Team.

Looking Back at a Year of Success!

In a year marked by increasing climate disasters, frightening news, and a frustrating lack of urgency from our government, it can be easy to feel resigned and discouraged. But through our collective actions, we are making a difference. We have made great strides this year!

We took to the streets of San Diego with Rallies and Protests - We rallied and called on President Biden to declare a climate emergency and for an end to Sempra’s fossil fuel ambitions.

We changed government policies - We organized San Diegans to call for better climate policies by sending emails to and calling our elected officials, and signing petitions.

We educated and engaged the community through events like the Carnival for Climate, Earth Day celebrations, forums and presentations.

We empower youth leaders - Youth4Climate helped student leaders organize climate strikes at schools and provided youth with mentoring and skills through Y4C programs and the Eco-Club Coalition.

Sound Cue: Ominous Thrumming

Times are tough. All of the climate disruption measurements are off the charts. We are about to cap off the hottest year in human history. On Friday November 17, 2023, global temperatures exceeded 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Star Wars and our current fight for a liveable planet have many parallels in the American Revolutionary War. (...) As individuals, the rebels didn’t stand a chance but together, with steadfast determination and dedication, the poorly equipped and poorly trained Continental Army beat the world’s then superpower.

According to the UN, we are currently tracking toward just under 3 degrees Celsius of global warming.

I’ve heard some activists say that hope has to be a strategy. But hope without action is just wishful thinking. Effective action ranges from changing our own behaviors to educating neighbors and family, pressuring congress, protesting, and choosing a career in environmentalism. Oh, and supporting SanDiego350.org too!

What drives your activism?
As a pre-med student aiming to be a pediatrician, I am concerned with the health impacts of climate change and especially how they affect kids growing up in this climate crisis; I want to work for a better, safer world for the future generation. I’m also inspired by my mentor, Dr. Vi Nguyen, whom I work with through San Diego Pediatricians for Clean Air. - Wayne Mai
