Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice (ICEJ) is a volunteer organization of San Diego faith leaders and communities that advocate for climate and environmental justice both in policy and in the public square. We believe that the values held in common by all faith traditions include the care for creation and care for the most vulnerable in society.

In just three days we will gather for Ashes to Action: Honoring Our Climate Dead, Protesting Fossil Fuel Banks.  Hopefully you have already registered but if not, I want to urge you to join us (and feel free to just show up–we welcome all comers!).  Each protest keeps climate change in the public eye and continues the pressure on the fossil fuel financial/industrial complex.  For more info here is our blurb.

In the past fifty years approximately two million people have died from climate change related events including nine in the recent floods in SoCal.  From 2016-2022 four big US banks–Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo–have poured over one trillion dollars into the fossil fuel industry which drives climate change.  THIS MUST STOP!!  To protest this blood money and honor those who have died a coalition of environmental groups is holding a series of memorial services/protests in different locations around San Diego.  On Friday, April 5  1:00-2:30 PM the event will be in Solana Beach starting at Citibank, 740 Lomas Santa Fe Dr, processing to Bank of America, 943 Lomas Santa Fe Dr and then to Mission Federal Credit Union to thank them for NOT investing in fossil fuels. 

This event is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and partners including Third Act So Cal, GreenFaith, SanDiego350, CleanEarth4Kids, and the North County Equity and Justice Coalition.  It is part of GreenFaith’s Faiths for Climate Justice.

Over the past years the number of earth or green fairs has grown in San Diego and beyond.  These fairs are good opportunities for environmental orgs to get the word out about what they do and encourage visitors to join them and to take specific actions.  ICEJ will table at three of them–listed below:

• South Bay Earth Day  Sat. April 13  11 AM–3 PM  Chula Vista Bayfront Park, 980 Marina Way, Chula Vista
• Earth Fest  Sat. April 20  11 AM–5 PM  Balboa Park at Park Blvd and Presidents Lawn
• Mount Hope Community Earth Day Fair  Sat. April 27  10 AM–2 PM  Dennis V. Allen Park, 850 Boundary St, San Diego

Please come by and visit our booth (locations not yet released).  We will continue to collect signatures for the PowerSanDiego ballot initiative and promote our summer events.  And, if you can help us staff a booth (1-2 hour shifts), we most need help with Earth Fest.
