I hope you're having a great summer! We've been busy at Youth4Climate celebrating some big wins and preparing for the next school year.

Youth v. Oil celebrated a huge win when, after months of advocacy and activism from grassroots organizations and frontline communities, Big Oil withdrew its referendum to overturn the oil setback law on June 26th. Youth v. Oil worked tirelessly to pass resolutions at five city councils in San Diego County and to educate voters about the referendum, doing its part in the bigger movement throughout California. “This shows that young people like me have the political power to effect change,” said Daniel Hernandez, Youth v. Oil member and a rising senior at Bonita Vista High School. “You can be sure that we will keep fighting Big Oil’s efforts to poison communities and cause climate disasters.” Read our full press release (co-written by youth) below.

Our 2024 Youth4Climate Rise Up Rooted Summit was a huge success. We had over 50 amazing community members and youth activists gather together to hear the inspiring stories of diverse youth activists, participate in creative team-building activities to help build community, discuss various climate and social justice topics in small groups, and learn how to create impactful change at our action fair. Over 12 different schools were represented, with youth ranging from 7th grade to graduate school. We would like to thank our amazing youth speakers, our wonderful volunteers, our talented event planners, and Ocean Beach People’s Food Co-op for donating the delicious food for the event!
