Dear Friends of ICEJ,
We are one of a number of organizations that are cosponsoring SanDiego350's Energy for Everyone: Take Back Our Power (from SDG&E) to be held on Thurs. August 15 10-11:30 AM at Sempra headquarters, 488 Eighth Ave in downtown San Diego. Please join us to protest SDG&E’s excessive rates and unsustainable policies. We will march with a 10-foot “fracking derrick,” hear inspiring speakers and a "follow the money" skit, and support strong net energy metering policy with calls to our Assembly persons. This event is part of a week of actions nationwide, demanding energy democracy and renewable, sustainable and affordable energy for everyone.
Speakers include:
- Phil Petrie – SanDiego350 & ICEJ
- Bill Powers – Power San Diego
- Tanisha-Jean Martin – SD Urban Sustainability Coalition
- Karinna Gonzalez – Hammond Climate Solutions
SDG&E is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sempra, and its cash cow. Not only is SDG&E charging some of the highest rates in the nation (and making nearly $1 billion in profits last year), but the exorbitant rates we pay are funding Sempra’s efforts to expand its fracked methane gas infrastructure and global exports and to kill rooftop solar. At a time when more than a quarter of San Diego families can’t afford their energy bills and people across the world are dying from exposure to extreme heat, we say: This. Must. Stop.
Join us, and thousands of others across the Country, to demand affordable energy rates, clean energy, and climate justice! Share! Invite your friends to participate. #SempraFracksOurFuture
