EVENT HIGHLIGHT: Energy for Everyone -
Take Back Our Power! (from SDG&E)

Thank you to the 50+ people who came out to protest in front of Sempra Energy Headquarters last week! As part of a national week of action, we demanded clean and affordable energy for everyone. There were inspiring speakers, powerful chants, and an impactful song/skit performance during the rally.

Not only is SDG&E ripping us off (making nearly $1 billion in profits last year), but the exorbitant rates we pay are funding Sempra’s efforts to expand its fracked methane gas infrastructure and global exports and to kill rooftop solar. We say NO MORE! It's time we take back our power from SDG&E!

We made the news! Check out the coverage on channel 7, 8, and 10. Also, check out the photos from the event.

Let's Go! San Diego is now Measure G: Vote Yes on Measure G!

Since 2022, SanDiego350 has advocated for Let’s Go! San Diego- a county-wide, half cent sales tax that will permanently fund our region’s badly-needed transportation projects. Last week we got the official designation, straight from the County Registrar of Voters, that will appear on millions of ballots: Measure G!

Measure G is expected (based on comparable taxes) to raise over 300 million dollars a year, which will be leveraged to raise over 1 billion dollars in matching funds from state and federal sources. This windfall would enable local agencies to embark on projects like moving the LOSSAN rail corridor off the Del Mar bluff, building a public transit connector to the airport, increasing bus frequency, and so much more.

Those projects would lead to significant improvements to the quality of life of San Diegans. Imagine less freeway congestion, safer streets for drivers, transit riders, pedestrians, and bikers, and even better air quality. Plus, increasing the use of public transit will be a key part of keeping to our emission reduction goals.

We need 50% + 1 of all voters in San Diego county to pass Measure G, so we need your help to reach voters. Volunteer with the Yes on G! SD350 team & Sign up to table bit.ly/WannaTableSD350

Youth-led Vote for Climate Campaign Launch

The upcoming November election is critical for many reasons, one of the most urgent being our response to the climate crisis. That is why, beginning this August, Youth v. Oil will be officially kicking off its Vote For Climate campaign, an effort that involves getting adults to focus on environmental issues this election as if they were a sixteen-year-old facing their future.

One of our main objectives is to gather support for the Let’s Go campaign, and getting adults to vote yes on Measure G. If passed, Measure G would improve city trolleys, provide affordable fares for seniors, students, and the disabled, extend the railway to the airport, and fix road potholes all across the county.

“We really just want adults to know how critical this moment in time is,” says Sofia Carrasco, Vote For Climate’s other co-lead. “Our emissions over these next four years really define what kind of planet we’ll be living on for the rest of our lives. It’s an overwhelming fact, but it cannot go unacknowledged.” Youth v. Oil plans to educate and motivate voters through media presences, newspaper op-eds, and a rally on October 12th from 12-2pm in downtown San Diego.
