EVENT SPOTLIGHT: Vote for Climate Youth Rally

Our youth are TAKING ACTION! Youth from all over San Diego County rallied and marched on Saturday, October 12th, calling upon adults to vote for their future this November. The rally featured all youth speakers who discussed the importance of this election, the effects of the climate crisis, and voting yes on Measure G, which will improve public transportation in San Diego. Then they marched along the Embarcadero through Seaport Village chanting, carrying colorful banners and signs, and passing out flyers. The event included over 50 students, parents, and educators, uplifted youth voices, and worked to ensure that youth will have a safe and healthy future on this planet. Check out the photos from the rally and the news coverage.

Project 2025 & Its Dangers to Our Planet

Much can be said about the social and economic ramifications of Project 2025, but even from a purely environmental perspective, it is a detrimental set of proposals for our planet and has consequences that can directly impact our Californian communities. Its primary strategy revolves around weakening the power of the federal government agencies that are best positioned to make informed decisions on our climate. This allows politicians and private companies to “critically analyze” even the most factual data rooted in science. Notably, it suggests eliminating three offices in the EPA — including Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights — and reducing the power of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Project 2025 utilizes uninformed claims and targeted language in order to paint a misleading picture of the fossil fuel industry. It portrays awareness of the climate crisis as a form of fanaticism, framing denial and business as usual as the most reasonable options. Just recently, leaked training videos for appointees of the project revealed the intent to “eradicate climate change references from absolutely everywhere” — and by simply looking at the Heritage Fund’s document, it is easy to believe how such a horrifying propaganda effort is afoot.

Youth Perspective
on Measure G

Let’s Go San Diego is a coalition advocating for adults to vote “yes” on Measure G on the November 2024 ballot. This measure addresses traffic, smog, and congestion problems in San Diego County and aims to improve transportation infrastructure. Measure G holds particular importance for San Diego youth, promising a future with better transportation options and a healthier environment.

One of the key promises of Let’s Go San Diego that directly impacts young people is expanding the Youth Opportunity Pass program. Expanding this program would help to ensure affordable transit for more young people.

Beyond affordability, Measure G aims to improve public transit accessibility by increasing bus and trolley services. Commuting to school, work, or meeting with friends would become more convenient than ever, even during late hours.

Looking to the future, Measure G has the potential to significantly improve the lives of San Diego youth. Shorter commutes and less traffic will free up more time for work, school, and leisure. The promise of a healthier environment, both now and in the future, will foster a sense of optimism in our community and could reaffirm faith in our local government.
