Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice (ICEJ) is a volunteer organization of San Diego faith leaders and communities that advocate for climate and environmental justice both in policy and in the public square. We believe that the values held in common by all faith traditions include the care for creation and care for the most vulnerable in society.

Everything that we give thanks for in this season of Thanksgiving flows directly from our earth and the ecosystems that sustain us.  We of the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice wish to show our gratitude for our beloved planet with an outdoor interfaith service on Sun. Nov. 24 from 2-4 PM at Ski Beach Park in Mission Bay (on the east side of Vacation Island).  We will offer prayers from several faith traditions, listen to the music of Kol Tefillah, and fly kites after decorating them with earth friendly words and images.  Bring your own kite or fly one of the FREE kites we will provide.  Some light refreshments will also be provided.  Please join us and bring the whole family!!

Rain date–Sun. Dec. 8 from 2-4 PM.  For more information email phil@icejsd.org.  Please register below so we have numbers for food and free kites.

After Tuesday’s devastating election results, we are mourning a loss for our planet and for the people we love. Immigrants, women, LGBTQ+ people, people of color, frontline communities, and our youth have been let down.

Join SanDiego350 (supported by ICEJ) this Sunday November 10  5:00 pm – 6:30 pm at the Friends Center, 3850 Westgate Place, San Diego for a post-election Climate Justice Vigil to be in community, share our outrage and pain, and gear up for the fight ahead. Feel free to bring friends.

We will provide candles, and there will be speakers, songs, and small group conversations. We know the times ahead are going to be challenging and we will all need to move from feelings to hope – and to action.

We’re hurting. We’re scared. But we’ve never been so determined. Now, more than ever, we will fight for our future. And we won’t stop until the people of San Diego, California, the US, and the world live without fearing climate catastrophe.

We’ll be outside for the vigil portion, so bring a sweater--and we’ll have light refreshments.

If you’re not currently active with SD350 and wish to be, please fill out their volunteer interest form and they'll be in touch.

We have not yet reported on our  "¡Justicia para el Pueblo! ¡Justicia para la Tierra! | Justice for the People! Justice for the Earth!" Eco Fair and Town Hall held on Sat. Oct. 5 at the Southeastern Live Well Center so now is the time to do so.  We had over 60 people attend and I think a good and productive time was had by all.  Our own Clovis Honoré led an inspiring group of speakers including Bobby Wallace, who gave our Land Acknowledgement, Dr. LaWana Richmond, who gave our Labor Acknowledgement, Jacqueline Kennedy from Henry Foster's office, and a rousing poem by Julie Corrales.  While we ate lunch, we broke into small groups to hash out what were the most pressing environmental justice issues in SE San Diego (see photo above) and then reconvened to select which of those we would focus on for some kind of action (see voting below).  We landed on "Environmental Racism" as our issue and planting trees as a tactic to address it.  We plan to hold a meeting with all interested persons to determine next steps, most likely early in the coming year.  Stay tuned!!

There are too many people to thank for making the event a success but ICEJ was honored to work with a great group of folks from our partner orgs--the Environmental Health Coalition, GRID Alternatives, Groundwork San Diego–Chollas Creek, the San Diego Urban Sustainability Coalition, SanDiego350, and the Urban Collaborative Project.  Let's hope we can all work together again in the near future!!  It takes a village, right!
