Climate Justice Vigil / Post-Election Statement
Ballot Measure Results / Climate Anxiety

November has been a month of disappointment and grief, but we are determined now more than ever to turn our feelings into hope and action! This month we highlight our Climate Justice Vigil, share our post-election thoughts and plans, go over ballot measure results, and discuss steps to take to overcome climate anxiety.

We hope to see you at our Party 4 the Planet volunteer and donor appreciation party on Saturday, December 7st to be in community and celebrate our accomplishments.

Congratulations to Youth v Oil intern Emma Weibel who was named one of 25 San Diego County Remarkable Teens for 2024. (Read the article)

EVENT SPOTLIGHT: Climate Justice Vigil

Over 60 people came out to our Climate Justice Vigil earlier this month, to be in community, share their thoughts and feelings, and build hope. We have an amazing community of people dedicated to continuing this fight for our planet and the people we love. Check out the photos from the event here.

SanDiego350 will work to ensure that California leads the charge on climate action, resisting Trump’s agenda. Locally, we will be planning a Climate Justice Rally for next spring, to mobilize people to fight the Trump administration’s efforts and continue this fight for climate justice. We also plan to support other causes as this election is devastating to women’s rights, immigration, LGBTQ rights, and democratic institutions. We will continue to advocate for policies around transit, building electrification, and renewable energy at the local and state level that show we can have cleaner air, better health outcomes, and a safe climate – with a strong economy.

To make big changes, we need everyone in this movement. Get involved today: fill out our volunteer interest form, and if you can donate to support our movement.

Election Results for
Ballot Measures

The federal election results are alarming and tragic. Clearly, the climate was not a top issue for most voters, and climate action on the national level may stall or even go backwards.

“Will we succeed in turning back the Trump tide and continuing to make progress on climate? I don’t know. But we definitely won’t if we don’t try.”
Said Masada Disenhouse, our executive director, at our recent climate justice vigil.

SanDiego350’s work is far from over. We will ramp up efforts to lobby, educate, outreach, and organize as we fight for our future.

Check out the results from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

We are grateful for each of you who worked to advance climate and social justice during this election cycle.

Post-Election:
Our Fight Continues

Electing a climate denying president is a major setback for climate. A second Trump presidency, especially given the Republican control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, will be detrimental to climate action.

Trump has made it very clear what he wants to do – “Drill, baby, drill”. If Project 2025 is implemented, offices dedicated to clean energy research within the Department of Energy could be eliminated and the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, NOAA, and the National Weather Service could be significantly reduced or eliminated entirely and replaced with private entities. Trump may withhold funds allocated to build climate-resilient infrastructure against inevitable natural disasters as well as wildfire and disaster relief funds.

SanDiego350 will push democrats at the federal level to lock in regulations and distribute funding before the inauguration on January 20th and will push local and state officials and the governor to take steps that really matter in California, like building transit and electrifying buildings.

The Anxious Teen's Guide to Life in the Climate Crisis

There is no denying that the past couple of weeks have been unmeasurably stressful and heartbreaking. At times like these, it can feel like we are screaming our worst fears into the void while those in power shrug off our pain. I want to share a bit about my journey of overcoming climate anxiety to hopefully help others with similar struggles.

Step 1: Find Your Proof of Hope
Step 2: Detach Your Sense of Self from the Political Landscape
Step 3: Remind Yourself of Your Own Agency
Step 4: Focus on the Here and Now

This fight is not about hoping we find the one perfect solution. It’s about the daily choice to act and care, that is the only way we can protect everything we cherish so deeply. And when you feel overwhelmed, when despair threatens you, remember: you are not alone!!
