EVENT RECAPS
Hands Off Earth Day!

On Earth Day, 80 San Diegans and other environmental justice groups came together to say “Hands off Earth Day” to to Trump’s EPA Director Lee Zeldin. Check out the coverage and photos.

The Trump administration backed off an expected executive order to strip climate nonprofits of their tax-exempt status on Earth Day, however we know the threats are still very real (read more from Masada, our Executive Director). WE WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT BACK.

Youth v. Oil Sacramento Trip

Ten high school members of our Youth v. Oil team and three SanDiego350 adult members traveled to Sacramento on Monday to meet with legislators to urge them to vote yes on the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund. They also got to speak at the Assembly Natural Resources Committee Hearing where the bill passed 9-3! Check out the photos from the trip.

Get involved in the campaign - fill out our interest form.

JOIN THE MARCH

It's Earth Month! SanDiego350 volunteers were at 20 Earth Fairs across the county this month, encouraging thousands of San Diegans to get involved in climate action.
Hear from some of our volunteers:

Grace L: “The fun of outreach is getting to talk to people, and have a face-to-face interaction. It’s nice to be hands on.”

Mahi K: “It’s most fun when you meet people who are passionate and who want to make a difference, and through us they find a way to make a difference and they get really excited. It makes me very hopeful for the future.”

Sienna G: “I find it so important to meet new people and see new perspectives because unique perspectives are so necessary to build a movement and get new people involved. I feel like I've learned how to connect better with people that I don’t know through tabling.”

As April comes to an end, we still need help spreading the word for the Unite for Climate March on May 3rd! Here’s what to do:

  1. Click here and follow the directions to pick up flyers.
  2. Go to community events and locations like local gyms and farmers markets to post and pass out flyers and spread the word!

Hands Off & Statement on threat to Nonprofits

This Earth Day, it’s personal. Trump is expected to sign an executive order to strip tax-exempt status from climate and other nonprofits ON EARTH DAY and Trump’s EPA Director (EPA destroyer) Lee Zeldin will be in SD. We can’t put our heads down; we need to rise up. We need to unify and work in concert across issues.

UPDATE: The Trump admin backed off the expected executive order but the threats are still very real. The fact that the administration blinked is a victory and shows that resistance matters. Zeldin’s statement that the administration will make sure nonprofits follow the law was laughable. The EPA has illegally fired workers (including hundreds of workers on earth day) and unlawfully retracted grants from much needed environmental programs, including several here in SD.

Youth Reflection on the Youth4Climate Summit

Over 130 people attended our 2025 Youth4Climate Summit. This undeniably shows that youth are stepping up to confront the climate crisis.

Taarika's Reflection
As one of the summit organizers, it was incredibly powerful to see everything we had worked on in our weekly calls come together. For those couple of hours, we were a strong, unified, unbreakable wall of voices crying out to the world demanding a liveable future.

Greta's Reflection
This summit wasn’t just an event to sit back and listen, it was a call to action. The number of people who gathered to take action moved me deeply. This is real action. Standing in front of more than 100 people is intimidating and exhilarating. How is that, as a young person, I’ve already gotten this far?

Trump Took Two More Steps Toward Climate Catastrophe

As the President pushes for more and more extraction of fossil fuels, even advocating for a move back to dirty coal, environmentalists and their allies have been looking to city measures and state laws, like the “polluter pays” bill that creates a climate superfund making its way through the California legislature, to fight back. ...If there is one silver lining in this current crisis, it is that it offers us an opportunity to reevaluate the meaning of democracy and advocate for a real one that can save the future. Want to raise your voice about the climate crisis? Join the Unite for Climate March on Saturday, May 3rd.

Climate Happenings: National Policy Review #2

As of April 2025, Trump has has helped the coal industry by relaxing carbon reduction requirements, rolled back vehicle emission rules, and the EPA may eliminate environmental justice offices, which mitigate pollution for low income Americans (Ahmed). On April 8th, the administration waived environmental rules to expand Trump’s infamous border wall on the Southern border (AP News).

Progressive politicians and organizations have wasted no time fighting against Trump’s anti-green, tyrannical policies. Since January, they have notched up the fight, holding rallies that attract thousands.
