TEAM SPOTLIGHT: YOUTH V. OIL TEAM
Youth v. Oil is making history! Youth v. Oil passed a La Mesa City Council resolution on Tuesday in support of the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund with Council Vice President Dillard! This CA state bill would make the largest fossil fuel polluters pay their fair share for the climate damages they've caused.

On October 24th, young people across California will host school walkouts to say: "Youth Demand Climate Action!" and pressure legislators to support the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund. Invite any young people you know to sign up to lead a walkout using this email template.

The Shortcomings of the
EPA Under Lee Zeldin

Today, the Environmental Protection Agency is run by Lee Zeldin, who in 2014 had denied climate change as a serious issue to be addressed.

Among all the gruesome decisions employed by the EPA under Zeldin, the most disastrous is still on the table, being the proposal by the EPA to repeal the 2009 endangerment finding, which declared greenhouse gas emissions as a danger to public health which can be regulated under the Clean Air Act.
Now is the time for all of us to testify to UPHOLD the Endangerment Finding. Toolkit: Make your Comment by Sept 15!

Utility Justice: Building Electrification to CA Bills

My name is Kelly Rickwa, and I am an Outreach Intern with SD350. One of the teams I have met is the San Diego Building Electrification Coalition.

Ann Feeney, the co-lead of SD350’s BE Coalition, said, “Buildings are the second highest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, so we strive to eliminate the burning of fossil fuels in homes which not only exacerbate the climate crisis, but also has many negative health risks such as increased incidence of asthma.”

History of Youth-Led Protests in the US

In the face of adversity and discrimination, youth tend to have the most brutally honest but essential opinions on divisive issues. According to Syracuse Law Review, “more recently, youth activism has arisen in the context of immigration reform, environmental reform, Black Lives Matter, and of course, gun control.”

To better understand the importance of youth and student-led protests and walkouts in the present, it is crucial to examine their history, including how they strategically combat their target issue.

Meet our new South Bay Interns!

We are excited to introduce our new South Bay interns Azul Bay, Frida Vergara, and Sofia Medina.

Through a grant we received from San Diego Community Power with additional support from San Diego Foundation and Calpine Energy Solutions, our interns will educate students on clean energy and prepare them for clean energy careers. This is a program where both adult teachers and youth will work together to build a brighter future. They will be doing community outreach, leading presentations, leading student activities, and encouraging students to talk about clean energy with their family and peers.
