EVENT RECAP: SDG&E PROTEST

On Monday, February 2nd, San Diegans came out to protest San Diego Gas and Electric for making record profits while charging some of the highest rates in the country. We made our voices heard at the Rady Shell where SDG&E president, Scott Crider was speaking, to say NO MORE!

SanDiego350 Statement
on Endangerment Finding

On Feb 12th, the White House announced that “We are officially terminating the so-called endangerment finding, a disastrous Obama-era policy that severely damaged the American auto industry and massively drove up prices for American consumers.”

With these words, the Administration has embraced climate denial as official U.S. policy, ignoring the life-threatening impacts of climate change that millions of Americans face every day. The 2009 Endangerment Finding found that climate change causes a serious threat to human health, obligating the EPA under the law to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants. SD350 strongly opposes this rollback, see our CBS-8 interview.

Climate Migration & Climate Justice in California

Climate change disproportionately impacts communities that contribute the least to global greenhouse gas emissions, making climate migration one of the most urgent justice issues of our time. In San Diego, climate migration is no longer theoretical. Migrants arriving at the  U.S.–Mexico border increasingly cite drought, crop failure, extreme heat, and  climate-driven economic collapse as reasons for displacement. Yet U.S. immigration law does not recognize climate migrants as refugees, leaving many without legal protection. This legal gap turns climate displacement into a humanitarian crisis, where people fleeing environmental harm face detention, deportation, and denial of basic rights.

Hollywood Has a Problem With Public Transit

Like our landscapes, cars have dominated American pop culture, redefining our personal relationships to space, sustainable development, and freedom. Modern pop culture disempowers young people and the urbanist movement by associating cars with personal and economic freedom and paints an unwillingness to engage with an undoubtedly car-centric society as a personal shortcoming.

Despite continued expansions to regional transit and improved safety outcomes, without addressing America’s bias against public transportation in film and media, mass transit will continue to be subjected to budget cuts that decrease public participation in these essential services.

Polluters Pay: Status in 2026

If you’re familiar with Youth v. Oil and Youth4Climate’s recent work, you’ve likely heard of our priority campaign from the past year: the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act of 2025 (AB 1243 and SB 684). These bills were landmark pieces of legislation that would make the top fossil fuel companies pay for the climate damages they’ve inflicted.

For several major reasons — Gov. Newsom’s pro-oil shift, concerns over gas prices, and record-high CA oil lobbying — the bills will not be moving forward in 2026. Personally, I am outraged and shocked: shocked at the discrepancy between elected officials’ priorities and our own and outraged that California refuses to strengthen its climate leadership amidst the Trump era. Make no mistake: our efforts are not over.

The New Food Pyramid is a Climate Mess

On January 7th, the Trump administration released the new, inverted food pyramid. This pyramid puts red meat and dairy at the top, with processed carbs at the bottom. What’s most concerning about this food pyramid is the lack of scientific basis, and the fact that it’s driven by industry interests, specifically by the Big Meat and Big Dairy industry. Eight of the nine authors of the scientific report underlying the new Dietary Guidelines took funding or other compensation from meat, dairy, and egg corporations.

The new guidelines are putting profits over people and our planet, and will likely influence policies within schools and institutions. The food pyramid will have disastrous consequences on our already declining planet and our health.
