EVENT RECAP: Youth in Sacramento
13 Youth v. Oil members traveled to the state capitol in Sacramento on April 15th to speak at a committee hearing and advocate for strong climate policies that protect our futures. This included making oil companies pay for cleaning up their wells, stronger regulations on datacenters, and a Polluters Pay Climate Superfund. See photos here.
Support this work at our Youth4Climate fundraiser on Saturday, June 6th.

Campaign Highlight: Stand Up for Democracy

The Stand Up for Democracy campaign is well underway! The Research Working Group has been busy investigating the federal administration tactics to undermine elections. They discovered 32 (yikes!) points of entry into our election system that could be accessed to disenfranchise voters. It appears their main tactics will focus around using information gleaned from seized ballots around the country and the post office. There's so many other ways they can gain access, so we need to remain vigilant. However, there are reasons for optimism, as numerous legal firms are monitoring and issuing lawsuits around the country, and most of the lawsuits have been successful. Based on the research findings, the Activities Working Group will plan their actions and events to protect the midterm election.

Our Stand Up for Democracy Campaign is working on making sure the mid-term elections are free and fair. The campaign has four working groups, Activity Planning, Coalition, Research, Voter Engagement - join our April 26th meeting to learn more.

Thank you to Barbara Jaffe-Rose, with the Research Working Group, for her insight.

Youth Reflection: 2026 Youth4Climate Summit

Youth4Climate’s 2026 Summit, brought together over 130 attendees, making it our largest Youth4Climate Summit yet.

The summit was an amazing opportunity to network with other passionate youth and local San Diego environmental organizations.

Personally, as a high school senior interested in pursuing a climate-related career, but not really knowing what that might look like, it was really helpful to meet with the adult panel who shared their experience in a climate field. The workshop helped me form a clearer image of what my future career could look like and how I can get there.

The summit allowed us [youth] to find a sense of community and belonging out of our shared passion for the environment, giving us the encouragement and support system to be the change we want to see in the world.

Meet Our New Energy Affordability Team Co-Leads: Beth & Brad

What drives your activism?
I am passionate about avoiding consequences from humanity’s ongoing self-inflicted actions, and I believe that we can act in a way that is in harmony with both supporting the planet’s ecosystems as well as thriving as a species. I believe it is my duty to be a champion for such an approach. - Beth Tennyson

I am 66 and have been an activist since my youth in Berkeley, CA, when I participated in protests against the Vietnam War. My activism was inspired then by Martin Luther King, Jr., my lifelong hero. I like to think that my activism is driven by ‘love’, by which I mean a deep sense that we are our best selves when we strive to share, support, and uplift others and the world around us. - Brad Barham
