VOTE in the Primary Elections June 2nd

Make your voice hear, and VOTE! Get your ballots in for the Primary Election as soon as possible, we recommend dropping off your ballot rather than mailing it in. Election Day in June 2nd. Polling sites open 7am to 8pm. Find a drop-box or polling site / Learn more

This is your chance to vote on key races including the race for CA governor, Congress Members, State Legislators, and City Councilmembers.

AND make sure to vote YES on Measure A: Non-Primary Homes Tax (SD City) to approve a new tax on second homes in the City of San Diego that are unoccupied for >183 days/year. This would provide much needed funding for the City of San Diego.

Climate progress is under attack by the federal administration, so we need to continue putting pressure on California to lead the charge on implementing progressive climate legislation. Are you new to climate legislation advocacy, but interested in the topic? Join our Climate Legislation Training on Saturday, June 14th (Register)  to develop skills and confidence in communicating with elected officials and build your knowledge about key climate bills.

Finish the Rapid 215: We Deserve A Better Bus Service

If you’ve ever ridden the 215 bus from Mid-City to Downtown, then maybe you know the frustration. Local transit agencies promised (and spent $44 million) to convert an existing bus route with roughly 40-minute service to a 30-minute rapid transit journey. That now routinely takes closer to 50 minutes or more. For the thousands of San Diegans who depend on this route every day (commuters, students, essential workers, seniors), that’s not a minor inconvenience. That’s why our transportation team has joined forces with BikeSD and RideSD to launch the Finish the Rapid 215! campaign, and we need your help to make it happen. Join the team (here).

We are pushing the City of San Diego, MTS, and SANDAG to deliver rapid transit upgrades. Call/email these offices, tell them to Finish the 215!

Defend Democracy This Election Season

The right to vote is one of democracy’s most essential institutions, and Americans are being asked to defend it in new ways. Escalating political attacks on election systems and voting access have the potential to create a chilling effect that discourages eligible voters from participating altogether, but we still have incredible power to influence electoral outcomes with community participation.

During the 2024 general election, only 75.8% of registered voters cast ballots in San Diego County, the lowest for a presidential election in 20 years. This percentage dropped to 54.2% for the 2022 midterm election, and just 34.9% in the 2022 statewide primary. As San Diegans prepare to vote in the June 2nd primary and 2026 midterm elections, it's important to understand threats to voting.

Thirsty for Power: AI and the Future
of Utility Justice

Currently, AI models use exorbitant amounts of water and fossil-fuel-sourced electricity in order to power search engines and cool the supercomputers that store data and process digital inquiries.  Artificial Intelligence is projected to use approximately 13% of the world’s electricity by 2028, with each AI query using 10x more electricity than a Google search result. Those living in proximity to AI data centers report increased energy rates, with surging power demand straining grids and threatening affordability for working-class citizens.

Increased investments in artificial intelligence have the potential to exacerbate issues of inequality in energy allocation, with the development of new data centers highlighting AI’s role in increasing the cost of living for working-class households.
