We’re halfway through California’s legislative session and we’re working hard to get important bills past their second house. As a constituent, you have a powerful voice.
That’s why we’re asking you to take 5 minutes to call and email YOUR state Senator (not to be confused with your U.S. Senator) on priority bills they’ll be voting on in August - bills to support community solar access and give homeowners the option to electrify when gas lines are replaced. Read more about these bills in our blog.
Please contact your Senator by July 27th. This is the 2nd of 3 asks on the most important climate legislation of this session.
EMAIL / CALL SCRIPT
This is <your name> in <your neighborhood / town>, a constituent in District <number>. I urge Senator <name> to vote YES on two Assembly bills affecting my and my community’s choices for energy use.
- AB 1813 (authored by local Asm Ward) - Would support community solar through access to subscription clean-energy programs, enabling everyone to access solar energy, even when they can’t put solar panels on their own roof.
- AB 2313 - Would give home owners options when a gas line to the home needs to be replaced or repaired and offers financial incentives for electing to use electricity instead of gas.
When you’re calling, keep it short but personalize if possible. Leave a voice mail if no one picks up, and call back later if you can.

When you’re using the Senator’s email contact form, you could add information about why this is personally important to you. Ex. AB 2313: “I’m going all electric in my home as soon as possible. It makes no sense for SDG&E to put in a new gas line to my home when we all need to end our reliance on fossil fuels.” Use your own words.
