Communications and Volunteer Coordinator Job Announcement

SD350 is hiring for a Communications and Volunteer Coordinator. This position is open until filled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute volunteer coordination and communications programs and activities
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for campaign, outreach and other activities
  • Train and coach volunteers and volunteer leaders
  • Track volunteers and volunteer activities
  • Promote and communicate about SD350 campaigns and activities
  • Attend and organize organizational meetings and other events as needed
  • Assist with fundraising

Essential Skills

  • Able to develop, coordinate and complete programs and projects
  • Comfortable talking to volunteers, attending events, working in teams, a “people person”
  • Strong digital skills (especially google docs and spreadsheets, social media, and ability to master new computer applications)
  • Passionate & knowledgeable about climate change
  • Good organizational and tracking skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated; proven ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment
  • Professional demeanor (and ability to dress professionally when appropriate)


  • Spanish speaking
  • Knowledge of San Diego neighborhoods, issues, political landscape
  • Graphic design skills
  • Web page design and maintenance skills


  • 1-2 years organizing experience, especially recruiting and coordinating volunteers

Salary, benefits and working conditions

  • Annual salary of $40,000-47,000.
  • Full time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position including paid vacation and health benefits.
  • Flexible hours. Some evening and weekend hours will be required on a regular basis.
  • Will generally work from our office in Hillcrest; flexible regarding some remote work; must have own laptop computer and ability to travel and transport materials around San Diego County.
