Anti Fracking Rally and Public Comments during the Coastal Commission Meeting

SanDiego350 is hosting this event with the support and presence of members of Center for Biological Diversity.

Where/When: Wednesday, August 13, 2014, from 8:30 am until 11:00 am.  Outside, in front of the Catamaran Resort, 3999 Mission Blvd. in San Diego. Please RSVP

The Coastal Commission will be holding its next regular weeklong meeting in San Diego.  Although there are now no oil and gas relevant actions on the agenda, we want to continue to let them know that we demand that offshore fracking be halted.

The rally will take place outside on the sidewalk in front of the Catamaran Resort. We will stand with signs and have hazmat suits, snorkels and masks for folks to wear. If you have a wetsuit and a longboard you are encouraged to bring those as well with signs "Surfers Against Fracking".

Parking is difficult in this area.  We plan on convening on the sidewalk out front of the resort around 8:30 am so those arriving for the conference see our "displays" - however, the actual rally itself will be from 10 to 11 am.  Please give yourself lots of time to find parking, if needed.  Car pooling is always encouraged.  Please plan to arrive by 9:30 at the latest.

Due to a change in the agenda, we will be making very limited public comments inside the meeting.

Please RSVP to this event.

Background:  Until late last year, no one was aware that fracking was happening on the offshore platforms in the Santa Barbara Channel.  Those waters are under federal jurisdiction.  It was discovered that fracking polluted fluids were (still are) being dumped directly into the ocean.  The EPA mandated that as of March 1, 2014, they had to declare how much they were dumping as they limited dumping to 9 BILLION gallons.  However, we do not know how much is regularly dumped, if it is reported , or if anyone knows the chemicals included in what is being dumped.  We want this stopped.  We call on the Coastal Commission to require oil companies to obtain coastal permits for fracking in state waters, require review of all offshore oil and gas fracking activities in federal waters off California to ensure consistency with coastal protection, and issue guidance to local governments to prevent fracking that threatens coastal waters.
