In collaboration with the Membership Engagement team, the Plant-Forward team invites you to Planet-Based Eating: Where Climate Action Meets the Plate for an evening of insight, inspiration, and delicious food! We’ll explore how a more plant-based diet can serve as a powerful tool for climate action through a dynamic presentation on the environmental impacts of animal agriculture. There will also be a guided farm tour to learn about the sanctuary, meet the rescue animals, and hear their stories.

Stick around for a vegan potluck, where you can connect with others over great conversation and even better food. Come hungry for knowledge and snacks, we can’t wait to see you there! Feel free to bring your favorite vegan dish to share!

TWO GUEST SPEAKERS

BARBARA GATES – Founder and President of Healthy Kids, Happy Planet

Healthy Kids Happy Planet: We envision a world where our youth thrive in a culture of health, environmental stewardship and ethical food systems. We are dedicated to helping students make conscientious food choices to participate in creating a healthier, greener and more socially just world.

Barbara has been a children’s health educator and advocate since her own children entered public school, and in 2003 spearheaded a CA coalition to successfully pass the first ever school lunch legislation calling for daily plant-based school lunches and nutrition education that includes a plant-based perspective (ACR 16, CA 2003). Three more states followed suit. She founded HKHP in 2010, to further the goals of the legislation. Barbara earned a BFA in theatre, and every now and again works as a professional actress in So Cal.

ROWDY KEELOR – Senior Educator at New Roots Institute

New Roots Institute: At New Roots Institute, we are empowering the next generation with knowledge and training to end factory farming.

Rowdy empowers fellows to become impactful advocates through education and training. Over the decade prior to his time at New Roots Institute, Rowdy has held a diverse range of positions in the nonprofit world, co-founding a cigarette recycling organization in Asheville, NC, coordinating community outreach for one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in the Southeast US, and organizing for Dogwood Alliance to protect Southern forests. Rowdy loves making music and is a heck of a drummer.
