Polluters Pay Climate Superfund
The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund (SB 684 and AB 1243) is simple: a bill designed to hold fossil fuel companies financially accountable for the environmental damage caused by their emissions. The goal is to dedicate funding for initiatives that address or seek to mitigate the damage of climate change, especially in vulnerable communities.
WHO WILL PAY FOR THE DAMAGE?

"Who will pay for the damage from climate disasters?
Right now, the answer is us: taxpayers, ordinary people, those who had no say in the decisions that created this crisis."
"The connection between greenhouse gas emissions and the extreme weather events occurring today is clear. And the companies most responsible for these emissions keep profiting, untouched by the destruction they have caused."
"From 1998 to 2024, there were 46 confirmed climate disasters in California whose losses exceeded $1 billion each. In 2017 alone, the federal government spent over $120 billion responding to climate disasters."
WHAT WE'VE DONE
- Sixteen of our Youth v. Oil high school members traveled to Sacramento to advocate for the bill and spoke at the Assembly Natural Resources Committee Hearing.
- We have gotten over 25 organizations, businesses, unions, and clubs to sign on to our San Diego letter for local legislators.
- Four Youth v. Oil members had fake oil spilled on themselves in protest at our Unite for Climate March and received local media coverage.
- We hosted a press conference in support of the bill where youth, businesses, climate disaster survivors, physicians, and elected officials all spoke in support of the bill.
- With the help of City Council President Joe LaCava, our resolution passed through the San Diego City Council Rules Committee and will be heard shortly at the full council.
