South Bay Clean Energy Education Program

We are creating and piloting a high school program that engages teachers and students in communities of concern in San Diego County’s South Bay on clean energy and its importance to environmental health. Students are learning about clean energy, energy efficiency and resiliency and exploring energy career paths through lessons and activities.

WHAT WE'RE UP TO

  • Year 1
    • Building the knowledge and experience of an interdisciplinary cohort of 9 teachers from 3 high schools in clean energy, energy efficiency, sustainability and resilience.
    • Creating supplemental curricula, lesson plans and activities tailored to diverse courses and the needs of students with 1 paid high school intern
  • Year 2
    • Educating a total of approximately 1,800 students at 3 South Bay high schools through a variety of approaches about clean energy, energy efficiency, sustainability and resilience, with 3 paid high school interns receiving professional and leadership skills.
    • Engaging about 2,000 community members through tabling (e.g., at South Bay Earth Day and the Lemon Festival), community presentations and students talking to their families.
    • Producing an evaluation of the program and a replicable package of resources and distributing them to regional educators via our partners.
