As the sun sets on many opportunities for increasing our solar energy infrastructure response to the climate crisis, people across the United States are launching a bold new chapter in the struggle to repair the Earth.

Leading up to these efforts, on Saturday, September 13 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice will celebrate a family-friendly Sun Day Picnic for our Solar Future with speeches, games, music and general merriment. Co-sponsors include GreenFaith, a global interfaith organization to protect the planet and create a compassionate, loving, and just world; SanDiego350, a volunteer-led non-profit working to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice; and Third Act, an elder-led movement for climate action and democracy protection.

Despite climate denial, corporate greed, and political inaction and interference with an expansion of renewable energy, we will add our light to the constellation of courage across the country for climate justice.

All are welcome!

Bring your Brown Bag Brunch & Beverage to a joyous gathering in the park to celebrate the central importance of renewable energy to our planet’s future. We’ll supply the vegan desserts, music , and dynamic speakers to talk about what we can do in California and especially in San Diego to make that future happen.

Please remember to bring a camping chair, hat, reusable water bottle, and sunscreen.

Register for reminders and more detailed information!

WHY WE’RE MOBILIZING

The clean energy transition is at a critical tipping point. Solar power is now the cheapest form of energy on the planet, clean energy jobs are growing rapidly, and communities across the country are experiencing the benefits of cleaner air and lower energy costs. But powerful fossil fuel interests and their political allies are working overtime to preserve the status quo and block progress.

☀️ Clean energy is increasingly affordable: Solar systems pay for themselves within a few years, global solar capacity has grown more than tenfold in the past decade, and the clean energy sector now employs millions of workers in the US, creating sustainable jobs and economic growth.

Communities are seeing real benefits: A solar system can provide cheap and clean energy to your home for decades. Communities that get most of their power from solar energy report fewer asthma attacks, clearer skies, and quieter neighborhoods – clean energy improves lives in ways you can actually feel.

⚡ We have the solutions we need: While traditional power grids fail during storms and emergencies, solar panels plus batteries keep the lights on when you need them most. Putting solar panels on your roof produces no air pollution or greenhouse gases during operation, improving local air quality and reducing your carbon footprint.

Despite this progress, we face organized opposition from fossil fuel companies and their allies who are spending millions to slow down the clean energy transition – attempting to roll back key clean energy policies in Congress, spreading misinformation, and protecting their profits at the expense of our health and future.

We’re standing together to accelerate clean energy deployment, support workers and communities in transition, and ensure everyone has access to affordable, clean power.

Whether you’re motivated by lower energy bills, cleaner air for your family, climate action, energy independence, or good-paying clean energy jobs – this moment is for you.

We need to build a massive, visible, national celebration of clean energy progress and demand for acceleration.
