Make Polluters Pay: how can we fight back

Due to the climate crisis, extreme weather events have become more frequent, damaging, and expensive. Polluters are clearly at fault, so why is the cost being forced onto California’s taxpayers?

SanDiego350 and Youth v. Oil will come together for a lively discussion and call to action in support of the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (Make Polluters Pay), which would force the biggest climate criminals to pay for the damage they have done. Representatives will discuss the history of Polluters Pay and its future, how to get involved, and the upcoming Polluters Pay Walkout, a historic state-wide action on October 24.

Join us Oct 6, 6-7 pm on zoom!

Due to the climate crisis, extreme weather events have become more frequent, damaging, and expensive. Since the 1960s, fossil fuel companies such as Exxon have buried the findings of even their own scientists about the planet-warming effects of their emissions and continue to reap a massive profit at the expense of our communities and ecosystems.

The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (SB 684 and AB 1243) would require fossil fuel companies responsible for more than 1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from 1990-2024 be held financially accountable for the damages they caused. The Superfund will be dedicated to funding projects responding to, or attempting to mitigate damage caused by climate change, especially in frontline communities. Both Vermont and New York have passed similar bills.
