SD350 volunteers visited the offices of three of the five members of Congress in San Diego County in August and September 2012 to ask that they support ending federal subsidies for fossil fuels. We’ve also got meetings set up with the other two Congressmen – Darrell Issa and Duncan Hunter – for later in October.

Congressman Brian Bilbray (R) – Emily Wier, Steve Gelb, and Soma Tekumalla met with Brian Jones, Rep. Bilbray’s Deputy District Director. We received the following quote from the Congressman in support of ending fossil fuel subsidies: “If the federal government is serious about reducing our dependency on fossil fuels, then government should create an energy policy where all technologies are considered equally and no one sector receives special treatment. I see climate change as an issue that will require the innovation of the private sector in partnership with the federal government to encourage the development of a true source of clean renewable energy.”
Congresswoman Susan Davis (D) – Phil Petrie, Janina Moretti, Daria Flores and John Mustol met with Congresswoman Davis. She supports ending fossil fuel subsides and noted that her voting record indicates her support.
Congressman Bob Filner (D) – Daria Flores, Peg Mitchell, John Mustol and Masada met with Congressman Filner. He supports ending all fossil fuel subsidies and mailed us a letter after the meeting to say he had co-sponsored the Sanders/Ellison bill that would end fossil fuel subsidies. Congressman Filner was a speaker at SanDiego350.org’s first event, Moving San Diego to a Clean Energy Future, in September 2011.
