This month, we interviewed SanDiego350 volunteer, Kyle Brinker to share about their climate activism. Kyle is a member of the Transportation team and Legislative Team and has helped with petitioning for Let’s Go! campaign.

How did you first get involved with SD350, and when was that?

I’ve been involved since early 2023. I knew I couldn’t make a big enough impact through voting and lifestyle changes alone, and needed to engage more deeply with the democratic process to make sure we’re all on the path towards a healthy planet!

What drives your activism?

We all have a responsibility for giving our communities a healthy and livable future. I needed to do my part to build ecologically sound institutions, so the next generation can carry the torch and continue to stave off the worst of climate disasters.

What do you recommend to people who want to have a larger impact through the environmental movement? What do you prioritize in your own activism?

Finding a way to contribute that works with your lifestyle is important, and that can take time. I found my role with ballot initiatives, which I can work on flexibly on the weekends in the busy places nearby where I live. Sometimes, you have to wait and be opportunistic to find your role.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about you? Any fun facts?

I’m voluntarily car-free! Working from home in the Uptown area, I’m able to meet my needs just fine with walking and transit. I’d love to see more people try it!
