We work to reduce energy costs for San Diegans by fighting the political power of investor-owned utilities, especially San Diego Gas & Electric. We seek state legislation to reduce excessive profits, promote clean energy and level the playing field between the public and investor-owned utilities at the California Public Utilities Commission. At the local level, we fight for a better deal for San Diego residents from SDG&E.
WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON
- Educate San Diegans about how:
- SDG&E is a for-profit monopoly that obstructs climate action.
- Clean energy is affordable energy.
- Bring enough political pressure on decisionmakers to reverse SDG&E’s high rates.
- Work with a new statewide coalition on clean energy affordability.
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS DO
- Learn and share our knowledge to advance our advocacy.
- Attend public meetings to monitor and respond to government decisions.
- Represent SanDiego350 at various coalition meetings.
- Meet with elected officials to advocate for clean affordable energy.
- Analyze, describe, and track relevant local, regional, and state policies.
- Write Op-Eds, Letters to the Editor, technical/planning docs.
- Participate in actions to draw attention to SDG&E and its high rates.
Team Accomplishments
- We have worked in coalition with other organizations to host a training in National City on utilities and organized a large public turn out to the annual rate presentation by SDG&E executives at San Diego City Council on December 15th.
