Celebrate Earth Day and join us on Sunday, April 26th from 12pm – 2pm in Oceanside (location TBD) to learn about how climate change affects Oceanside and how students can get involved in meaningful action!
Tides of Tomorrow is a free, youth-led afternoon event for high school and college students across North County San Diego. Come meet working ocean scientists, learn about real career paths into marine science and environmental work, and connect with the organizations doing that work in your backyard. No background in science required. Just show up!
Attendees will:
- Explore seaweed art and California kelp ecology with Dr. Adi Khen and Kalani Ortiz, researchers from the Smith Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography
- Hear from Danielle Muller, SCCOOS Program Coordinator at Scripps and U.S. Coast Guard licensed ship captain, on what two decades in marine biology actually look like as a career
- Connect with Save Oceanside Sand on what’s happening to Oceanside’s beaches and how students are already involved in the science
- Learn how to plug into climate advocacy and environmental organizations in North County
- Take action by volunteering to join our campaign for electrification in Oceanside
This event is organized by students, run by students, and built for students who are curious about the coast and what they can do about it. Community service hours available for volunteers.
