In 2022, the California legislature passed a bill that was signed into law which requires 3,200 feet health buffers between oil drilling and processing sites and people’s homes, schools, hospitals, playgrounds and workplaces.
Big Oil spent $20 Million to immediately collect signatures to put a referendum on the November 2024 ballot. They will spend millions more to repeal the law at the ballot box, and have, at the very least, delayed its implementation for 2 years.
We need your help to fight Big Oil and ensure the law is kept in place! Join our interactive kickoff event on Saturday, March 23 at 1 pm to get involved in this crucial campaign in San Diego County.
We’ll :
- Learn about how oil drilling is negatively affecting the health of primarily BIPOC and low income communities
- Learn about the law, the referendum, and the campaign
- Participate in hands-on actions to take at the event
- Explore different working groups and activities to join, including public outreach, endorsements, youth organizing
This is an all-ages event, with high school students and adults working together to lead the charge. All this is to ensure that come November, San Diegans vote strongly to keep this law in place and protect our communities from Big Oil.
Note: This is an in person event. We may record or stream parts of it. If you’d like to get involved, but can’t attend, or, if you can volunteer at the event on March 23, please contact us.
