The HR & Operations Coordinator’s responsibilities will include human resources, finances, grant reporting, compliance and other operations and administrative needs. They will work with the Executive Director, Treasurer and Bookkeeper. This part time position is open until filled, first posted in early April, 2023.

SanDiego350 is an inclusive volunteer organization building a movement to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice. We support a livable planet and a just society through education and outreach, public policy advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action. We represent approximately 8,000 local volunteers and supporters in the San Diego area. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Human resources: lead recruitment and hiring efforts; support staff supervision, development, and performance evaluations; workplace safety; and personnel policy development. 
  • Finances and Grants: monitor and report on income and expenses; check handling; reimbursement and check requests; payroll support; monitor grant spending and goal progress; grant reporting and writing; ensure compliance docs are filed; etc. 
  • Compliance: develop organizational understanding and compliance with laws and regulations, e.g., lobbying, labor, tax code, insurance, corporate and non-profit. 
  • Special projects and events: prepare for board and TLC meetings, support fundraising and other special events, special projects, use of office. 
  • Executive Director (ED) Support: office and equipment management, ED scheduling, special projects related to organizational development and internal policies, preparation for Board meetings, etc.

Essential Skills

  • Able to plan, coordinate and complete projects independently
  • Strong digital skills (especially Google docs, social media, and database)
  • Good organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail
  • Highly motivated team player with a proven ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment and to manage deadlines and changing priorities
  • An understanding of systemic racism and environmental injustice and their impacts on underrepresented communities and communities of color
  • Experience and interest in working directly with people from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, meet deadlines, respond to unanticipated challenges, balance conflicting demands, and adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and roles

Preferred Experience

  • 2-6 years experience with human resources and hiring, financial tracking, bookkeeping, data management, as an admin assistant or office manager, etc. 
  • 1-6 years Experience with relevant legal and regulatory compliance
  • 2-6 years Experience supervising staff
  • Knowledge of and interest in climate change policy and issues  

Applicant Must

  • Be based in the San Diego area and have the ability to work remotely as well as occasionally out of our Hillcrest office, and occasionally travel around San Diego County. 
  • Have access to reliable transportation and be willing to use it for job-related tasks
  • Own a cell phone, laptop, and reliable home internet to use for job-related tasks

Employment Details

  • Part time, 15-20 hours per week. 
  • Benefits: Sick leave
  • Hiring range: $26-30 per hour depending on experience 
  • Reports to the Executive Director
