Democracy & Resistance

Using non-violent direct action and other tactics, we aim to Raise the Alarm about the urgency of climate change and upholding democracy.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON

  • Resist Trump’s attacks on democracy–organize massive response to Trump power seizures with as many partner orgs as possible and promote fair and free elections
  • Influence public opinion on climate change by holding Flash Banner Actions (FBAs) (approx. weekly)
  • Work with Energy Affordability team on a Utilities Campaign that will target SDG&E and draw attention to high rates and undermining of rooftop solar
  • Organize SD350/RTA contingent of marches and field contingents. Design and execute banners and other visuals for marches

WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS DO

  • Plan and execute protests, direct actions, and highway flash banner actions
  • Participate in art builds to create signage
  • Creating social media to promote team work
  • Writing/performing guerilla theatre skits
  • Write and edit press alerts and statements and other messaging
  • Outreach to partners, police, press, and more

Team Accomplishments

  • Held more than 20 flash banner actions across the county (photos)
  • As part of our Sempra Fracks Our Future campaign we’ve held more than 5 protests at Sempra outing them as a fossil fuel company (they build fracked gas infrastructure–pipelines and export terminals) and SDG&E, which they own, as their cash cow.
  • Supported youth protests with trainings and support
  • As part of our campaign to push our local electeds to support the Green New Deal, we occupied the offices of Rep. Susan Davis and Rep. Scott Peters. Davis signed off on the GND; Peters did not.
  • Worked with partner organizations to protest planned Mitsubishi cement terminal at the Port of San Diego, which was subsequently rejected.

Fun Fact!

We hold occasional happy hours to relax and enjoy each others’ company!
