November 8, 2022 is the general election and all California residents have the option of either voting by mail or in-person at a polling site. This year, for the first time, you can vote at any polling site in the county. Several important climate and social justice measures are on the ballot this year. Ensure that your voice is heard! Check out the information below for everything you need before casting your ballot.

- September 29: Voter information pamphlets mailed or emailed to registered voters.
- October 8: Mail-in ballots begin to be sent to registered voters. If you have not received your mail-in ballot by October 13, call the San Diego County Registrar of Voters (858-565-5800) and another will be sent.
- October 10: Early voting begins at the Registrar’s Office (5600 Overland Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123). Ballot drop boxes open and remain open through November 8.
- October 24: Last day to register to vote. If you miss this deadline, you can still visit a polling site and conditionally register and vote.
- October 29: Select polling sites open, every day 8am-5pm, through November 8.
- November 5: All polling sites open, every day 8am-5pm, through November 8.
- November 8: Election Day! Last day to mail-in ballots, drop off ballots, or vote in person. All polling sites open from 7am to 8pm.
How do I register to vote?
- Make sure you are registered to vote at YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS by October 24! Register to vote or check your registration status. Note: your ballot cannot be forwarded to you. Make sure your address is correct for where you will be living in October.
- Same day voter registration is available! If you haven’t registered to vote by October 24, visit the County Registrar of Voters, during the 14 days prior to, and including, Election Day – or a polling site on election day – to conditionally register and vote using a provisional ballot. - People aged 16 or 17 may pre-register to vote. You will need your California driver’s license or identification card number, or you may print, sign, and mail in your voter application.
- Review the state and local ballot guides. All voters will receive their state and local sample ballot guide booklet in the mail (or via email if you chose that when you registered) on September 29. - Mail-in ballots will be sent to every registered voter on October 8 and should be received by October 13. Track the status of your ballot, and if you haven’t received it by October 24, call the Registrar of Voters (858-565-5800) and another will be sent.
How do I cast my ballot?
- Send in your ballot by mail by November 3! We recommend sending it early so it will be counted on Election Night, rather than in the weeks afterward. To be counted, your ballot will need to be postmarked by November 8 at 8pm at the latest. No postage is required! They would then be expected to be received by the Registrar of Voters by Friday, November 25 to be counted.
- Drop off your ballot at a polling site by Tuesday, November 8! There will be multiple locations that will be drop-off sites from October 5-November 3. Find your drop off location.
- Visit a polling site between October 10 and November 8. Don’t forget your mask!
- Early voting is available at the Registrar’s Office beginning October 10, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- Local polling sites will be open from November 5 to November 8. Click this link to find your closest location. Polls are open 8am to 5pm from November 5 to November 7, and 7am to 8pm on Election Day, November 8.
- Tip: Mail Ballot Voters who decide to vote at their polling place should bring their Mail Ballot to be surrendered, then a new ballot will be issued.
