Join our annual Party 4 the Planet Dec 7 – volunteer awards, good eats,  community with climate advocates

Member of the Month: Danny Fuchs

This month, we interviewed SanDiego350 volunteer, Danny Fuchs to share about their climate activism. Danny is a dedicated member of SD350’s Transportation Committee.

How did you first get involved with SD350, and when was that?

Back in Sept. of 2021, I was feeling a bit down after the latest IPCC report was released and was looking to help out in any way I could. I was already an SD350 sustaining donor and Masada actually reached out to me around that time and asked if I wanted to be more engaged with the organization. She introduced me to the different policy teams and from there I chose the transportation team.

What drives your activism?

I feel like climate change is clearly our biggest existential threat that is not getting the attention and or action that is required if we want to continue living on this planet.

What do you recommend to people who want to have a larger impact through the environmental movement? What do you prioritize in your own activism?

Do your own research on potential ways to reduce waste, live a more sustainable lifestyle and, if interested, be part of your community’s environmental action. See what aspects may align with your daily lifestyle and adopt them as you see fit.

I prioritize what I can control.

  • Taking public transit when feasible
  • Avoid buying produce that’s in plastic containers
  • Composting
  • Transitioning to a more, but not completely, plant-based diet
  • Only buy what is needed, when it’s needed to avoid excess
Is there anything else you would like people to know about you? Any fun facts?

Love the outdoors. Go backpacking a couple times a year and hoping future generations can enjoy nature as we do today.
