Safe & Healthy California at CA Dems Executive Board Meeting May 17-19
Youth v. Oil is advocating for the California Democratic Party to officially endorse supporting the Campaign for a Safe and Health California and keeping SB1137, the state law passed in 2022 to prohibit new or modified oil and gas wells within 3,200 feet of homes, schools, daycare centers, parks, healthcare facilities, and businesses.
Please show your support for youth leaders by signing up to attend the CADEM Board meeting and support the youth in the following ways:
- Table at the Event – Friday, May 17th 4-8 pm, Saturday, May 18th 8 am-8 pm, Sunday, May 19th 8 am-12 pm. Tabling materials and training will be provided
- Speak at Caucus Meetings – Friday, May 17th 6-10 pm & Saturday, May 18th 6-10 pm. Interest group caucuses will meet outside full group conference to decide their priorities. We will make short comments to these groups. (note: because we can have a limited number of speakers, we are prioritizing campaign youth to provide comment)
- Be present to hold signs at the resolutions committee meeting – Saturday, May 18 2:30-5:30 pm
Why does this matter?
When the law passed in 2022, Big Oil spent tens of millions of dollars to put a statewide referendum on the November ballot to try to repeal the law and at minimum delaying it by 2 years. We want to make sure that San Diegans vote to keep the law in place, and want to get our cities on record in support.
