Calling all San Diego area activists and ocean protectors!
In 2015 a highly corroded oil pipeline ruptured near Santa Barbara, spilling hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil that caused horrific damage to Refugio State Beach and killing hundreds of marine mammals and birds. Now, after almost 10 years of being shut down, an oil company wants to restart that same pipeline and three offshore oil platforms, opening up 1 billion barrels of oil for offshore extraction and putting wildlife and the coast at risk again in 2024.
This massive oil project is on the brink of restarting without proper public oversight or environmental review, but we can’t let this pipeline have a second chance to spill.
The California Coastal Commission and State Lands Commission both play an important role in protecting our coast from the next big oil spill and can take important actions to stop the restart.
Bring protest signs and testify at one or more upcoming state commission meetings in San Diego to urge them to use their authority to fight the restart of this highly dangerous pipeline and several offshore oil platforms.
