Join SanDiego350, partners and San Diego City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera in calling for strong protections for our communities from the potential hyperscale data center at NAVWAR, near Old Town and similar projects.
Please arrive by 3:45 pm. The press conference will start at 4:00 pm sharp.
Last week, Voice of San Diego reported that Manchester Financial Group has been exploring a data center of up to 400 megawatts on the 70-acre federal NAVWAR site near Old Town, land that had been planned for housing. Data centers are being proposed around the nation, and these decisions will shape our housing, utility bills, water, jobs, and the air we breathe.
Join us to call for strong, enforceable rules based on core principles, including:
- Ratepayers protected: Developers pay 100% of grid upgrades
- New clean energy and a responsible recycled water plan
- A real voice for communities in any data center decisions and agreements around community benefits
- Good union jobs: Project labor agreements, prevailing wage, and local hire through a community benefits agreement
- Safe distances from homes, schools, child care, and parks
- Housing first: No data centers by right, and only after an independent finding that housing on the site is infeasible
