HR & Operations Coordinator (Part Time)

The HR & Operations Coordinator’s responsibilities include human resources, finances, grant reporting, compliance, and other operations and administrative needs. This is a long-term part-time position reporting to the Director of Development and Communications and working regularly with the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Bookkeeper. 

SanDiego350 is an inclusive volunteer-led nonprofit organization building a movement to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice. We support a livable planet and a just society through education and outreach, public policy advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action. We represent approximately 8,000 local volunteers and supporters in the San Diego area. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Human resources: lead recruitment and hiring efforts; support staff supervision, development, and performance evaluations; workplace safety; and personnel policy development. 
  • Finances and Grants: liaise with external Bookkeeper to review and categorize income and expense transactions in QuickBooks to ensure accurate coding and alignment of accounts; report on income and expenses; check handling; reimbursement and check requests; payroll support; monitor grant spending and goal progress; support grant reporting and writing.  
  • Compliance: develop organizational understanding and systems to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, e.g., lobbying, labor, tax code, insurance, corporate, non-profit; ensure compliance docs are filed. 
  • Special projects and events and Executive Director (ED) Support: office and equipment management, ED scheduling, prepare for board, staff and volunteer leadership meetings, support fundraising, organizational development, internal policies, and other events and projects. 

Essential Skills

  • Able to plan, coordinate and complete projects independently
  • Strong digital skills (Google docs, spreadsheets, Quickbooks and databases)
  • Good organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively and confidently with various stakeholders and act as a thought partner with senior staff
  • An understanding of systemic racism and environmental injustice and their impacts on underrepresented communities and communities of color
  • Experience and interest in working directly with people from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, meet deadlines, respond to unanticipated challenges, balance conflicting demands, and adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and roles

Required Experience

  • 2+ years experience with human resources and hiring, financial tracking, bookkeeping, data management, or office management, preferably in a nonprofit setting.  

Preferred Experience

  • Nonprofit compliance
  • Staff supervision
  • Knowledge of and interest in climate change policy and issues  

Incumbent Must

  • Be based in the San Diego area and have the ability to work remotely as well as occasionally out of our Hillcrest office, including weekly staff meetings. Occasionally travel within San Diego County. 
  • Have access to reliable transportation and be willing to use it for job-related tasks
  • Own a cell phone, laptop, and reliable home internet to use for job-related tasks

Employment Details

  • Part time, 15-20 hours per week. 
  • Benefits: Sick leave and home internet/cell phone supplement
  • Hiring range: $26-30 per hour depending on experience 
  • Reports to the Director of Development and Communications
  • Ideal for someone with other professional or personal commitments, offering flexible hours.
