Better Transit. Clean Air. Green Jobs.

SanDiego350 is working with Environmental Health Coalition and other partners to lead grassroots efforts to pass the Let's Go! SD ballot initiative in November 2024.

About the Initiative

For decades, local governments in the San Diego region poured funding into expanding highways and underfunded public transit. The result? A sprawling, car-centric system of roads and highways that burdens our communities with toxic air pollution, planet-heating greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion, and unacceptable levels of traffic deaths and injuries. Meanwhile, an inadequate system of buses and light rail can’t reliably get residents where they need to go on time.

The Status Quo

  • Transportation is responsible for 41% of local greenhouse gas emissions
  • 79% of commuters drive alone
  • 71% of jobs are not accessible by transit
  • Air pollutants contribute to heart and respiratory diseases and reduce life expectancy

A Better Future for All County Residents Requires Viable Transportation Alternatives

Improving transit is essential for a healthy, sustainable, equitable and vibrant San Diego. One with safe, walkable and bikeable communities; with clean air; with access for everyone – regardless of race, income or location – to education, medical care, jobs and opportunities. Expanding transit will create hundreds of good-paying, green jobs and be a boon to the local economy. And viable transportation alternatives will also improve road conditions and reduce congestion for those who need to drive.

Why Now?

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) 2021 Regional Transportation Plan prioritized transit and active transportation. But funds are needed to implement the plan. The Let’s Go! Measure would place a one-half cent sales tax on the 2024 ballot, and, if passed, put us on the path to a healthy, equitable, and sustainable future. See our list of coalition partners.

Projects that Let’s Go! will fund include:

  • Purple Line from South County to Sorrento Valley to relieve congestion on the 805.
  • Blue Line Express from South County to Downtown
  • Moving Rail Line off the Del Mar Bluffs + Airport Connector
  • More frequent service and extended hours on bus and trolley routes
  • Habitat preservation, stormwater upgrades, active transportation
  • Keeping fares affordable and/or free for seniors, youth, disabled, veterans
  • Road improvements including fixing potholes.
