2023 Accomplishments

THIS YEAR WE...

Led Bold, Strategic Campaigns

Led Coalition Efforts for Transit

SD350 gathered thousands of signatures to put the Let’s Go! San Diego initiative on the 2024 ballot, held a forum for community leaders to learn about Microtransit, and published a commentary in the UT on the road user charge.

Confronted the Fossil Fuel Industry

We educated thousands of San Diegans on Sempra and SDG&E’s fossil fuel agenda through creative actions that received excellent TV coverage and by hosting the SanDiego stop on the California-wide “Big Oil Resistance Tour”.

Pushed for State
Legislation

We worked with statewide coalitions to advocate for several key bills that were signed into law by the Governor, including two important corporate disclosure bills and bills to require electric school buses and climate science education.

Empowered Youth

Inspired & Nurtured Youth Leaders

Provided hundreds of youth with mentoring and skills through  the Eco-Club Coalition and Youth4Climate programs. Supported youth to organize climate strikes at 12+ schools (TV coverage, student blog, photos) and oil spill actions.

Electrified Local School Districts

Youth leaders advocated for and passed resolutions to electrify school buildings and buses at San Diego Unified School District (photos / TV coverage) and Sweetwater Union Unified School District (photos).

Youth Leaders Recognized

SD350 Youth were featured in La Jolla Light (Emma Weibel, La Jolla HS) & Del Mar Sandpiper (Rami Kabakibi, Torrey Pines HS). Board member Keala Minna-Choe won a Cox Conserves Heroes award and $15,000 to support youth programs.

Mobilized & Skilled Up the Movement

Outreached to
San Diegans

We engaged over 2,500 San Diegans of all ages by tabling at events and built public support for climate justice policies. We hosted dozens of workshops on diverse topics including green bins, microtransit, and decarbonization.

Made Climate Fun for All Ages

Our Carnival for Climate brought together hundreds of diverse San Diego families to enjoy fun, educational games, activities, performances, and info booths from partner organizations (photos).

Activated Thousands

We organized thousands of San Diegans to protest climate inaction, provide public input, meet with elected officials, and advocate for stronger local, county, and state climate policies.

Stood Up for Climate Justice & Equity

Advanced Transit Equity

As part of diverse coalitions, urged SANDAG to prioritize community participation and equity in its CEO hiring (statement / TV coverage) and successfully extended Youth Opportunity Passes, which have provided over 6 million free transit rides.

Partnered with Justice groups

We held our second Climate Justice Leadership Conversation to learn about local challenges and projects from community leaders (recording). We also initiated a Community investment program to support local partners.

Candidate Forum on Climate Justice

Led a diverse coalition to organize a packed candidate forum focused on climate change and environmental justice for the District 4 County Supervisor special election (view photos / recording / para espanol).
