The Youth v. Oil resolution is on the docket at the San Diego City Council Environment Committee meeting which starts at 6 pm (specially scheduled to allow youth to attend).

Please show your support for youth leaders by:

  1. Attending the meeting – in-person if possible (you can also tune in to watch online). While the meeting starts at 6 pm, please arrive by 5:30 at latest to ensure you have time to go through security and get a seat.
  2. Submitting written public comment ahead of the meeting (note: because we can have a limited number of speakers, we are prioritizing campaign youth to provide public comment at the meeting).

The resolution, as drafted by Youth v. Oil, would put the City of San Diego on the record as calling on Gov. Newsom to end oil extraction in California and specifically calls for:

  1. Stop issuing new oil drilling permits and begin phasing out existing oil wells.
  2. Create 3,200 ft safety zones between oil extraction sites and our homes, schools, and workplaces.
  3. Develop and launch a concrete plan to end oil drilling in  California.
